Notes from the desks.

We measure pumps that stay up, shelves that stay full, and cases that did not happen. Field notes, not a dashboard dressed as virtue.

Nadapal, Turkana · March 2026

The pump that gave the morning back

Four hours of walking became twelve minutes. School started on time. The clinic saw fewer infected blisters. That is what a borehole actually buys.

Before the Nadapal point, water was a morning and an afternoon. Girls left before dawn with twenty-liter cans. The clinic treated the same infected heels every week.

PH44 drilled in February. The community committee holds the spare handle. We hold the next seal and the mechanic’s fuel. Six months in, the logbook shows 40–60 fills a day and zero days down.

A water point is not a ribbon-cutting. It is a boring, beautiful reduction in how much a body has to spend being thirsty.

Huehuetenango · September 2025

A crate, a mule, a washed-out ford

The road was a river. The oxytocin still had to climb. Logistics is the moral act.

The radio call came at 16:40. Ford impassable. Two women in labor at the post. The cold box had eight hours left.

The Huehuetenango coordinator hired two mules from the last farm before the water. The crate went over with the same tape it left Oakland with. Both deliveries happened before midnight.

We put this on the site because donors ask what their $100 does. Sometimes it pays a mule. We are not embarrassed by that.

Tacloban cache · November 2025

The first 72 hours on Leyte

The storm had a name. The crates already did. PH44. They opened before the appeal emails went out.

Pre-positioning is a bet we make in April. In November the Tacloban cache opened to barangay responders we had trained in May. Tarps, water tabs, tetanus, rice — in that order, because that is the order the body fails.

PH44 staff arrived on day two. The community had already issued 400 shelter kits from the log. That is the point of the tape mark: anyone can find the crate. Anyone trained can open it.

Fundraising during a storm is too late. If you sponsor this desk, you are buying April.

Bekaa Valley · January 2026

The unphotogenic shelf

Amlodipine, metformin, pediatric paracetamol. The drugs that keep a displacement from becoming an emergency.

Press likes a tent. Patients like a full shelf. The Bekaa pharmacy crate is restocked every fourteen days with the chronic medicines a grandmother actually takes.

Last winter we added fuel stipends so the clinic days could keep the stove on. Attendance stayed flat — which, in January, is a victory.

If you want your name on something, put it on a restock cycle. We will send you the packing list. It will not be glamorous. It will be true.

Fund the next note.

Water, medical, shelter — or the general crate, which the field director moves the same week.
